Christchurch Wholesale - Nursery Assistants

With a proud 96-year history and six store locations nationwide, Oderings is a 100% New Zealand-owned, family-run business spanning six generations and employing over 150 staff across the country.
We are currently looking for motivated individuals to join our Wholesale team at our Christchurch nursery. These fixed-term roles run from August until November 2026, with the potential for ongoing employment for the right candidates.
About the Role
At Oderings, we believe in a one-team culture where everyone mucks in and supports each other. This is a hands-on, indoor role suited to those who aren’t afraid of physical work and want to be part of a dynamic nursery team.
Key Responsibilities:
Potting, planting, and transplanting seedlings
Watering, weeding, trimming, and staking
Fertilising and general plant care
Nursery maintenance including sweeping and tidying
Working in the greenhouse and assisting with dispatch
Medium to heavy lifting - bagging potting mix
Working in both hot and cold weather conditions
Operating bobcats and Forklift if you have the correct license with F endorsement
What We’re Looking For
Nursery or horticulture experience is a bonus, but not essential – full training will be provided
A strong work ethic, reliability, and a positive team-focused attitude
A passion for plants and working outdoors
Physically fit and capable of lifting plants and walking throughout the day
Willingness to learn and grow within the company
A full driver’s license (preferred but not essential) and reliable transport
NZ Agrichem certified handler or qualified person certification is beneficial but not required
All candidates need to successfully complete a Pre-employment drug and alcohol screening and an ACC pre-employment check. Applicants for these positions must be a NZ Permanent Resident or hold a valid NZ work visa.
