Oderings Nurseries is a proudly family-owned New Zealand business, growing and selling quality plants and garden products since 1929. With six Garden Centres nationwide, we are known for our quality plants, expert advice, and commitment to helping New Zealand gardeners succeed.
We are now seeking an experienced and motivated Branch Manager to lead one of our Christchurch Garden Centres.
About the role
Reporting to the National Retail Manager, you will be responsible for leading the day-to-day operations of the branch while driving sales performance, team engagement, and operational excellence.
This is a hands-on retail leadership role where you will lead from the floor, ensuring your team delivers exceptional customer experiences while maintaining high standards of presentation, merchandising, and product quality.
You will foster a positive, high-performing culture where staff confidently engage customers, apply the Oderings Customer Service Journey, and contribute to the commercial success of the branch.
Key responsibilities
Lead, motivate, and develop a high-performing retail team
Drive branch sales growth while managing labour, purchasing, and operational costs
Champion excellent customer engagement and ensure consistent service standards
Oversee store presentation, merchandising, and stock quality across all departments
Recruit, coach, and develop staff to support strong team capability and internal progression
Monitor sales performance and use data insights to improve results
Ensure compliance with company policies, systems, and operational processes
Promote and maintain strong health and safety practices across the branch
Act as a local ambassador for Oderings within the community
What we are looking for
Proven experience as a Branch Manager or senior retail leader
Strong commercial awareness with the ability to drive sales and manage costs
A confident people leader who enjoys coaching and developing teams
Excellent communication and organisational skills
A proactive and solutions-focused approach to retail operations
A genuine passion for customer experience and team culture
Horticultural knowledge or an interest in gardening is highly desirable.
