Shallots are easy to grow and have a distinct onion based flavour.

Plant shallots by pressing into the soil until half the bulb is showing above the ground, and space 5-6cm apart. Feed with bulb fertiliser at planting time and again in early spring. Plant now and lift in January or when the tops die off.
