Trachycarpus Oreophilus - Thai Mountain Fan Palm

This relative of the common windmill palm (T. fortunei) differs significantly in having more robust leaves with a silver coloured underside. Growing much slower than T. fortunei, it takes many years to develop any trunk, making this very useful if a moderate sized palm is desired. Being as hardy as the other members of the Trachycarpus family, this is a rare species and not often available.

The leaflets are more slender than its windmill relative and it has a more delicate attractive overall appearance. When it does develop a trunk it loses its woven fibres to reveal a smooth trunk. A great addition to any garden to create a tropical vibe where other delicate palms may be difficult to establish.
