In spring, Hybridberry Thornless Jewel™ showcases white blossoms that are followed by large, firm, conical dark red/black berries with a classic boysenberry flavor - juicy and sweet. This variety is moderately vigorous with thornless canes and is self-fertile, relying on insects and bees for pollination. A crossbreed of Boysenberry, Thornless Jewel™ can be grown throughout New Zealand.

Typically ready for harvest in December, producing a substantial crop. The best way to enjoy Hybridberries is fresh from the plant. Alternatively, you can chill them for later use in desserts, fresh summer salads, or as a topping for ice cream. The berries are ripe when they can be easily removed from the plant.

Full sun

Protect from winds, including salty sea winds

Well-drained soil with good moisture content and high organic matter; annual mulching in spring is recommended.

Pruning involves tying up robust canes produced in spring and summer while removing thin, weak, and wandering canes. In late summer to early autumn, trim 10 cm off the tips of the canes to encourage the growth of fruiting spurs. In autumn (or winter in cooler, drier areas), remove the canes that have already fruited from the base of the plant.
