BOTRY-Zen WP is non toxic and bee friendly; it improves soil and plant health, and is manufactured in Dunedin, NZ.
It has been used in commercial vineyards and kiwifruit orchards since 2004, and now, just this year we have made this product available to the home gardener in our small pack for the smaller garden plots or inside plants. We have also packaged it in bigger bottles (160g) for the gardener with a larger family garden or a large glasshouse.
What is BOTRY-Zen WP and how does it work:
BOTRY-Zen WP is a powder formulation that contains a live fungus, in the form of spores, called Ulocladium oudemansii. The live fungus takes up physical space in nutrient areas that the fungal disease/pathogen requires. This can be on your plant and in the garden. As Ulocladium oudemansii is more aggressive than the pathogens we target (Botrytis and others) it takes up space on those nutrients that the pathogens exist on, reduces their affect on your plant and stops them from spreading further.
So this is a biological fungistatic product. This means it inhibits the growth of the fungal disease/pathogens.
When to spray:
Most fungal diseases come out of hibernation early spring time. They are resident in the soil over the winter time and once the right temperature is attained they start to germinate and spread. It is at this time we need to protect our plants by spraying product on to plants with good coverage. BOTRY-Zen WP sprayed on at this time, will also germinate and the benefit is that it is able to spread much quicker than fungal diseases. You can’t see this fight for space happening as the good and bad spores are microscopic.
BOTRY-Zen WP’s active ingredient was initially researched by Plant & Food Research NZ in Hamilton. It is registered with EPA, ACVM in NZ and is BioGro certified as an organic input.
To mix up a batch of spray mix, first pour some water into your spray bottle, and then add 8 grams of product per litre of water. That means if you have a ten litre spray bottle, you need 80 grams of product. Add this into the spray bottle, close the lid and give it a good shake until all the product is mixed with the water. Top up the spray bottle with water to the desired level, and now you are ready to spray. We recommend a pressure spray bottle be used with our product, and don’t forget to shake the bottle regularly when spraying.
For ornamental flowers and vegetables apply BOTRY-Zen WP when shoots emerge out of the soil, reapply 10 to 14 days later. For fruiting crops apply when bud flowering starts and again 10 to 14 days later.
Care of product:
BOTRY-Zen WP is a living organism called Ulocladium oudemansii and is kept from germinating in its glass recycled bottle. So when you use some of the product don’t forget to screw the lid back on straight away. It is best if kept cool in a dark, dry area, out of direct sunlight.
BOTRY-Zen WP has a two year shelf life from date of manufacture, but needs to be kept in a cool area to keep the product in good condition.
Don’t forget when empty, reuse, recycle or return the glass bottle.
