Syzygium australe is commonly used as a hedge plant, due to its dense growth habit and ability to be easily shaped and pruned. Featuring dark glossy green leaves and small, white or cream-colored flowers that bloom in summer. The fruits are edible and have a sweet, slightly tart flavor. They are often used to make jams, jellies, and sauces.
