Anemones are versatile, low-maintenance flowers that bloom in dazzling colours. Perfect for cutting gardens, pots, or borders, they bring beauty and longevity to your outdoor spaces
Position
Plant anemones in full sun with well-drained soil to ensure strong growth and vibrant blooms.
Prepare Soil
Garden: Enrich the soil with Bulb Fertiliser or Bone Flour, working it into the top 10cm.
Pots: Use a quality potting mix and ensure good drainage.
Feed
Garden: Apply Bulb Fertiliser or Bone Flour while the plants are growing to extend the flowering season.
Pots: Feed regularly during growth for a fuller display.
Watering & Mulching
Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged. Overwatering can cause corms to rot. Water thoroughly after planting and during dry spells.
Protection
Refrigerate corms for six weeks before planting to break dormancy. Soak corms in lukewarm water overnight before planting to encourage root growth.
Picking Flowers
Wait two days after blooms open before cutting flowers for vases. This ensures they last longer and remain vibrant.
How to Plant
Corms: Plant corms cone side down, 5cm deep, and 10-15cm apart in prepared soil.
Seedlings: Use disease-resistant varieties like anemone ‘Harmony’ for a colourful, compact display.
End of Season Care
When foliage turns yellow and dies down, remove it and dig up the corms. Store them in a cool, dry place for replanting next year.
Container Gardening Idea
For something unique, plant anemones in a pot close together for support and a fuller display. Add cascading pansies around the edge for extra interest while the anemones grow.
Garden Expert Tip
For the best display, mix old corms with new ones each year. Younger corms are more vigorous and produce stronger flowers.
